Trikini 23 Oct 4th 2002

Well was a long hot summer and the 23 has mainly sat

We did resolve the title issue and the vessel and trailer are now registered and the vessel titled.

It was considered to sell or give it to someone to restore but no takers.

It Was considered scrapping it and selling parts. The owner of Lee’s 6.47 was interested in spare parts for his restoration.

Took a couple of trips in the 13 and these old joints just didn’t fold up for a 13 foot boat. BUT still wanted a sailboat in my quiver ; so took another look at the 23 and at the boats I have designed and owned.

First decision was that I wasn’t going cruising. Lots of personal issues here, so mainly what I wanted was a comfortable day sailer with some speed. Gee that was back to the 6.09 Goals

Well I loved the TRIKINI “D”. The 23 main hull once you get rid of the cabin and solid wings is pretty close. So after a lot of head scratching and soul searching the decision was made to redo the 23 as a Mini “D”.

First thing we did was demount the OR’s and remove the Swing Wings. and hit a stumbling block. If we stayed with the swing wing the OA Beam was 15 ft. and the solid wings were needed.

Remembering there was a spare set of 3 1/2″ OD tubes from the 6.09 project boat we decided to make this craft demountable not trailerable. Since it was going to be kept afloat at our dock this was not a big thing. It also allows the OA Beam to be 20 feet

This was a personal boat not a market prototype. Pure one off

We decided to make the CA system available for sale. (STILL AVAILABLE)

So right now we are dissassembling the 23. I have removed the OB mount, steering, rudder , and the OR brackets are coming off.

The OR are moved inside and the trim, hatches and decks removed so the CA pivot pins can be removed. We have a lot of sections of the molded channel for the 3 1/2″ tubes left over from the 6.09 and these will be used to mount the OR Tube ends. New ones will be built using a 7 degree dihedral for the main hull.

The original DB trunk is still in the main hull but glassed shut and the glass will be removed

We have dug out the original drawings and tried getting the offsets and entering into CAD format. Takes time but we think we can produce some good drawings and numbers.

Here are some photos taken as we go along
