Sea Puppy rides again

It was great, I finally got to take Sea Puppy out again. The roller furling is awesome.. total time to sails out or furled is under 15 seconds. The radio worked great also.. and the main goes up and down so easy it’s like being on another boat now. Amazing what having a sheeve at the top of the mast will do 🙂

I have stopped using a shackle on the main halyard. I am just using a bowline on it to attach to the headboard of the sail. Thats what we were using to attach to the shackle we were using and it had issues. So its just easier and more convienent to just put it on the main directly.

I actually had a crowd out on the boat. Hans, Judy, Miriam, Emily and her friend Elizabeth. Because of the number of people out we only stuck our heads outside the jettys for a few minutes. It was blowing around 17 or 18 knots and seas were around 3 ft and we all the new things and changes made on the boat in the last week or two that were untested as well as the number of people on the boat I made the decision to stay inside the inlet where it was flatter and the wind was a few knots less. Needless to say we still had a great day on the water. Emily was our appointed helmsman for much of the day and did an excellent job.

Miriam and Judy did most of the handling of the jib sheets for tacking and Hans… well were not sure what Hans did 🙂

but he was there and having fun. 🙂

Elizabeth definatly had fun even though she is very camera shy. 🙂

Her and Emily really liked the waves when we were outside the jetties. Something about the squeals of delight gave them away…. well them and Judy… she seemed to like that part of it a lot also…

The last time Judy went out it was a mild day with just a small 1 ft swell and she got motion sickness.

Today it was blowing hard and pretty bouncy and she did’nt want to come back in. 🙂 We’re going to make a sailor of her yet. 🙂
Miriam as always took it in stride.

Each time I’ve been out with her she gets better and better at handling the boat and sailing.. I keep forgetting to loan her my copy of “sail power” by wallace ross to read. It is probably one of the best books on sail handling and trim I have read.. thank you richard for recomending it.

All in all it was a very successfull day.. the roller furling worked great.. the new sheeves also did their job. The new topping lift was so much nicer than what I was using before and having the fixed mount radio to use was very comforting.
