2 Years ago we sent the Trikini 6.09 and the Trikini Mini Tri up to VA for finishing so we could work on the Trikini Power Tri 32. That was launched in June and has be used and finished up since. BUT it isn’t a sailboat.

As you might remember, about the same time we had been offered a TRIKINI 13 and bought it. Hull 22 built in 1968. It was in MI and stored at a friends site that aloso had the TRIKINI 23. This was originally the prototype for a 7.92 trikini. The main hull had been tooled but the mold was destroyed in Hernando county in 1985 when my wife died and the projects there died as well.

The hull was shortened by 3 ft and a pair of 6.47 swing wings and outriggers and the sail plan and rigging were put on it. It got sailing about the time we started the excursion boat and was sold to a fellow in PA that wintered in FL. He sailed it for several years and made some changes I don’t like and then sold it to my friend when he bought a more convention 28 ft Trimaran.

Anyway about 2 weeks ago We were offered both boats if we came and got them. So last Sunday at 7 am we took off (me, my 84 year old mom and sammy our 120 lb german shepherd for Southern Michigan. 1328 milles non stop, getting in before 7 am Monday to Cold, rainy miserable weather and spent the day loading things up for trailering back.
Spent the night in a local motel and with a forecast of freezing rain and snow flurries took off a 7 am Tuesday heading for the SUNNY AND WARM South. Actually saw one car with about an inch of snow on it. First Snow in 30 years.

So now we have two new projects for the winter. Have already started. The TRIKINI 13 is the first Project since it is simpier. It is dissassembled and the Deck pulled off the main hull.

The CA attachments are fine but the wood is a little flexible. There is minor rot and delamination. I was thinking of replacing but I think I will just add FG to both faces to stiffine and reinforce. Someone has made some terrible “repairs using a thin cloth and resin. They didn’t even bother to scuff the surfaces and it all just peels off. The exterior will be sanded, scratches patched and then painted with a good quality epoxy paint. Will use my old show boat color scheme. Red OR Hulls, White OR Deck and Main Hull and Royal Blue Main Hull Deck. Biggest project will be figuring a replacement for the 15″ round Prout Hatch that was on the foredeck.

It needs a new Rudder Blade and Daggerboard. More on that later.
The TRIKINI 23 is a much bigger project. I’ll deal with it later but incorporate into these logs since the 2 jobs will be interspersed. The original 6.47 sails are gone but the Spar is intact. The DB is gone and a terrible leeboard is installed and will be removed. The rudder head is stock but the blade is gone. A ugly Anchor chock has been fitted and the patented swing wing system is also not there. The CA’s are orignal and will need upgrading to Mk 2 specs. We have several ideas for changing things around to make it into a mini cruiser/racer.

The big question is what do I do with a fleet

These photos are from arrival here and initial unloading and starting work on the 13.
edit by scott I have only included pictures of the trikini23 not the 13 in here. If you wish to see information on the trikini 13 the follow this link to Capt. Len’s Website
