August 19th 2006 Little River Sailing..

Well I was supposed to have a full boat today.. but everyone cancelled out on me. So I went out by myself 🙂 All the work I have put in changing the running rigging and controlls is really paying off. Sea Puppy is now very easy to single hand.

The wind was blowing around 10 to 12 knots off the coast and the seas were minimal at about 1 to 2 feet.

I sailed for a little while then came in and anchored out with LC Marie and Lickety Split… We spent the afternoon scrubbing our boats bottoms and hanging out. Nice time…

The easy jacks worked great… when i came into the inlet I furled the headsail and then just headed up into the wind and quickly dropped the main.. it took start to finish it took about a minute and a half and it was down and tied up.. anchoring also went very smoothly… first time out the anchor bit and I was setting dead even with LC Marie about 20 yards away.

It was a nice moral building day for me… It feels good to see some of the modifications I’ve made paying off. Also it shows me that all the studying and listening to the more experienced boaters and the practice on and off the water are paying off in smooth and effective boat handling.. I’m not all there yet but I’m definatley getting there. 🙂 at least with Sea Puppy.

I even sailed off my anchor 🙂 It went well I just put up the jib and Sea Puppy started tacking back and forth on the anchor. Each time she would pull up on it a little more and I would pull it in.. finally the anchor broke loose and it quickly got it aboard and in the forward anchor locker… As soon as the anchor came up sea puppy fell off and and I quickly went back to the rudder and steered her downwind and let the jib all the way out.. I sailed through the inlet and into the waterway for another 30 minutes under jib alone like this before pulling it in and cranking up the iron sail.
